Jan specialises in arbitration, litigation and private international law.
He acts as counsel and secretary to arbitral tribunals in international and domestic arbitration proceedings. He represents clients in proceedings concerning recognition, enforcement and setting aside of arbitral awards, as well as in complex cross-border commercial disputes before Polish courts. He also represents clients in complex commercial mediations and negotiations.
He has experience in arbitrations conducted under the ICC, VIAC, SCC, LCIA and the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce rules, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. Jan has advised clients in disputes arising out of M&A transactions, construction projects and international sales of goods, as well as in matters involving companies from the financial, energy, defence and agricultural sectors.
He is currently preparing his PhD dissertation in international commercial arbitration at the University of Warsaw. He also teaches university courses in commercial and investment arbitration, as well as civil procedure.
In 2020, Jan graduated with honours in law from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. During his studies, he was a visiting student at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, the Heidelberg University and the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing.
In 2019, he completed an internship at the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law. He also attended the Hague Academy of International Law’s Summer Courses and the 2022 Arbitration Academy in Paris. Jan served for three years as Co-Chair of the Young Arbitration Forum (AFM below 40). He participated as a mentee and currently serves as a Group Advisor in the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme.
Jan has been recognised in international legal rankings. He is recommended in the Dispute Resolution category by The Legal 500 EMEA. In the Chambers Global ranking, he is listed in Arbitration as an Associate to Watch.
